Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is set to temporarily release around 45,000 prisoners, amid fears coronavirus could spread in jails.
There are about 300,000 prisoners in Turkey's crowded prisons. Those released would be placed under house arrest.
Inmates who have completed half of their sentences will be eligible for release under the plan.
But those convicted of terror or drug-related crimes, sexual offences, murder and violence against women will be excluded.
