Three people have died and several others were seriously injured in two separate road crashes across south-east Queensland on Saturday night, with police now appealing for public assistance as investigations continue into both incidents.
The crashes — one on the Sunshine Coast and one in Logan — claimed lives within hours of each other, leaving emergency services stretched across the region well into the early hours of Sunday morning.
Sunshine Coast: Pedestrian and Rider Killed on Nicklin Way
The first fatal crash was reported at approximately 8pm on Saturday, when police were called to Nicklin Way in the coastal suburb of Warana on the Sunshine Coast.
A 68-year-old woman, who was local to the area, was crossing Nicklin Way when she was struck by a motorbike. Both she and the 30-year-old male rider, who was from Golden Beach in Caloundra, died at the scene.
The tragedy prompted investigators to issue a public appeal on Sunday afternoon, seeking to speak with the rider and pillion passenger of a Ducati motorbike that was observed near the crash site around the time of the collision. The rider was described as a man wearing a white hoodie and a black helmet, while the passenger was described as a woman dressed in a dark-coloured top and leggings.
Police have urged anyone with mobile phone footage, dashcam recordings, or CCTV vision captured between 7.50pm and 8.10pm in the Warana area to come forward and contact officers.
Logan Crash: Man Dies, Two Hospitalised in Critical and Stable Condition
Less than three hours later, just before 11pm on Saturday, a second deadly crash unfolded on Kingston Road in the Logan suburb of Underwood, near its intersection with Parramatta Road.
A black Audi and a grey Subaru Impreza were involved in the collision. All three occupants of the Subaru suffered serious injuries. One passenger — a man in his 30s — was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Subaru's driver, a woman in her late 20s, was initially trapped in the wreckage. Fire crews were required to use hydraulic rescue equipment to extract her from the vehicle. She was then treated at the scene for life-threatening pelvic and head injuries before paramedics transported her under emergency conditions to the Princess Alexandra Hospital, where she remained in a critical condition.
The third occupant of the Subaru — another man in his 30s — sustained chest and leg injuries and was also transported to hospital, where he was listed in a stable condition.
The driver of the Audi, a man in his 20s, was initially reported by police to be uninjured. However, paramedics subsequently treated him for chest and neck injuries, and he too was taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital, where he was listed in a stable condition.
Officers are calling for anyone with relevant footage from around 10pm in the Underwood area — including dashcam, mobile, or CCTV recordings — to contact police.
Investigations Continuing as Police Seek Public Information
Investigations into both crashes were ongoing on Sunday. Police have not yet indicated whether charges are expected to be laid in connection with either incident.
The back-to-back tragedies have shone a spotlight on road safety across south-east Queensland, with three lives lost and multiple others left with serious injuries over the course of a single evening.
