NSW Police are investigating the death of a man whose body was recovered from the Murray River at Barooga , a border town approximately 266 kilometres north-east of Melbourne, on Tuesday morning.
Emergency services received reports of a body in the river and were called to River Road, Barooga, shortly after 8:15am. State Emergency Service crews and NSW Police attended the scene, with the man's body retrieved from the water approximately two hours after the initial call.
Crime Scene Established as Investigation Begins
Police have established a crime scene at the location and are conducting a formal investigation into the circumstances surrounding the man's death. The man has not yet been formally identified, and authorities have confirmed that a report will be prepared for the coroner.
It is not yet known how the man came to be in the river, and police have not indicated whether foul play is suspected at this stage.
