A Perth woman's joyful reaction to winning a brand new car on Telethon was instantly upstaged by her son, who appeared in the background wearing nothing but a towel, in what is already being described as the funniest moment in the charity telecast's history.

Falziah Cooper, an aviation screening officer at Perth Airport, was the lucky recipient of a Hyundai Kona, delivered to her Victoria Park home by AFL legend Shane Crawford and television presenter Katie Brown.

A Celebration That Got Out of Hand in the Best Way

Cooper was understandably overwhelmed when the pair pulled up outside her home. She jumped up and down, screaming with excitement and embracing Crawford on the spot.

"I saw them pull up outside, and I was just screaming, 'I won a car!'" she said. "That's when my son came out, and we heard the door banging. I didn't know what happened. I was this crazy woman!"

What Cooper did not immediately notice was that her son, Amir, had rushed outside to join the celebration wearing only a towel. The moment, broadcast live, had audiences in stitches. Amir later climbed into the new car alongside his mum, towel and all, capping off a segment that viewers quickly declared an all-time classic piece of live television.

The car giveaway is a perennial highlight of the annual Telethon broadcast, but this year's version took on a life of its own thanks to Amir's unplanned cameo. Much like unexpected moments that steal the spotlight, it was the unscripted chaos that made the segment truly memorable.

Earlier in the Night, Another Family Got a Life-Changing Win

Cooper's win was not the only Hyundai Kona given away during the telecast. Earlier in the evening, Trevor and Brenda Crispin, a couple from Busselton currently living in a caravan park and going through a difficult period, were also presented with a new car.

The Crispins' winning entry came from a $10 donation they had made, making their prize all the more remarkable given their circumstances.

Together, the two giveaways captured the spirit of Telethon: moments of genuine surprise and emotion, with this year's broadcast adding a hefty dose of unintentional comedy that viewers are unlikely to forget anytime soon.
