Everyday Australians have cast their votes and the results are in — Canstar has unveiled the country's best-performing insurance and superannuation brands for 2026, recognising the companies earning genuine customer trust at a time when confidence in major financial institutions has been under pressure.

The Winners Across Insurance Categories

In the car insurance category, Apia took top honours, recognised specifically for its straightforward claims process and fast turnaround times — two factors that matter most when drivers find themselves in a stressful situation.

For health insurance, Queensland Country Health Fund was singled out for the comprehensiveness of its cover and the clarity of its policy documents, qualities that customers said set it apart from larger competitors.

The roadside assistance category produced a three-way tie at the top. Allianz, RACV and NRMA all received top recognition, rated highly on value for money, response times and overall cost.

Pet owners gave their highest marks to Pet Insurance Australia, which was rated as the standout for customer service in what is a rapidly growing segment of the insurance market.

Superannuation: Vanguard Takes Out Value Crown

In superannuation, thousands of Australians voted Vanguard as best value for money, citing its low fees and competitive investment returns as the key reasons for their confidence.

"We all want to see our super balance grow and I think this award really reflects our members' confidence in Vanguard Super to deliver great returns with low fees," said Vanguard's Renae Smith.

The result is particularly significant given ongoing public scrutiny of superannuation fund performance and fee structures across the industry.

Why the Awards Matter — and What to Keep in Mind

The rankings were built on real-world customer experiences, giving prospective policyholders and fund members a practical starting point when comparing their options.

However, Canstar's Sally Tindall urged Australians not to rely on any single award when making financial decisions.

"It's really important to be picking a financial product, not just based on one award, but looking at all the different inputs to make sure it's the right fit for your finances," she said.

The advice is a timely reminder that while consumer-voted awards provide valuable insight into satisfaction and service quality, individual financial circumstances vary widely — and what suits one household may not suit another.

With the cost of living continuing to squeeze household budgets, choosing the right insurance and superannuation products has rarely felt more consequential for ordinary Australians.
